BAM premieres Joshua Beamish’s SAUDADE

The Brazilian Portuguese word ‘saudade’ means a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for an absent something or someone that one loves. It is also the title to a new romantic piece from the acclaimed NY based Canadian choreographer Joshua Beamish that is having its NY premiere at BAM this weekend as part of the 2017 Next Wave Festival

The six exceptionally talented male dancers confront their existential incompleteness. Merging balletic poise with street-style body isolation, they conjure hollow intimacies in a series of ghostly solos, pas de deux, and group passages, paying homage to the absence that keeps us longing.
