Queer Perspectives 10

For the past ten years Queer Perspectives at London’s National Portrait Gallery have invited guests  who identify as LGBTQI to select, discuss and highlight works in their Collections and beyond which have a personal resonance.

This innovative and inclusive quarterly event hosted by artist and curator Sadie Lee is going to celebrate its diverse decade, with an informal evening of pop-up performances and entertaining happenings with a Queer Twist.  She will be leading  a queer stroll through the Collection with a Late Shift Tour.

Drag scene legend John Sizzle will be playing a DJ set at the Late Shift Bar, and you will be able to hang out in the Portrait Café with hirsute hostess-cum-matchmaker Timberlina for a spot of speed dating and arty making. You can meet artist and photographer David Gwinnutt who will be signing copies of his new book of portraits of 1980s queer London, The White Camera Diaries,

There will be a performative talk by artist Bird la Bird and theorist Doctor Rohit K Dasgupta about the startling link between the National Portrait Gallery and Section 377, the British colonial law which outlawed queer sex.  And a selection of Deep Lez short films selected by curator Nazmia Jamal

Plus singer David McAlmont who celebrates his musical icons including Eartha Kitt, Dusty Springfield and Julie Andrews will be performing too.

All events are drop-in and free. Event capacity is limited and spaces are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
