An Homage to The Presidential Election 2020 with new Music

Alicia Keys and Brandi Carlile released a new duet, “A Beautiful Noise,” with a specific message to encourage voter turnout in the 2020 elections. The set is simple: Keys dressed in a black suit tinkering away on a white piano – and Carlile sporting a white suit behind a sleek black piano. “It is loud, it is clear. It is stronger than your fear. It is believing you belong. It’s calling out the wrong.” This beautifully harmonized song conveys an important reminder that we all have a voice – and the empowerment of your voice can make a difference if you use it.

The end result? The highest voter turnout since 1968, according to data from the Associated Press and the United States Elections Project, which tracks turnout. Experts think the 2020 rate could hit heights not seen since the beginning of the 20th century, before all women were allowed to vote. Speaking of women– it was no small feat to have made history by voting the first woman and woman POC Vice President into Office come January.

Tracy Chapman appeared in her first TV performance in years with a rendition of “Talkin’ ‘Bout a Revolution” on Late Night with Seth Meyers Monday, November 2nd – the eve before the most consequential Presidential election of our lifetime. Chapman tweaked the final chorus making the song even more relevant the night before the 2020 elections: “Finally the tables are starting to turn. Talkin’ bout a revolution, GO VOTE.” While Chapman rarely makes television appearances, she released a statement ahead of her performance, saying, “This is the most important election of our lifetime. It is imperative that everyone vote to restore our democracy.” A revolution has ignited, indeed.

Mike Taveira recently released his new single “Karma” – the ultimate break up song that resonates to every broken hearted person when their ex does them dirty, moves, on, and even seems to escape the Karma that they deserve. “They say what goes around comes around in the end. “Did Karma take a break and forget about you? Cuz she’s a bitch to everybody but never to you.” We’ve all been there, sweetie – and she WILL eventually cut a bitch.

It is my privilege to introduce to the Queerguru world Boston’s rising star in the DJ hemisphere – DJ Teenie Z. Her recent mix titled “Stop. Space. Return.” starts off with the beat of Crazy P, an English electronic music group – and quickly ramps up into mash ups of other songs from well renowned DJs like Chris Lake and Honey Dijon, just to name a few. The transitions in this set are so smooth that you feel like you are in the club anticipating for the next beat to drop on the dancefloor that you definitely do not plan on leaving anytime soon. Listen all the way through to the ending – the Queen of Disco NEVER disappoints.
