Today, like every first Saturday in May, is officially Naked Gardening Day. We have no idea quite who makes decisions like this, but we are guessing that they live in a warm climate somewhere.
This idea, we are told, is to tend your portion of the world’s garden unclothed as nature intended. This may be just window box, or in your backyard, or if you feel even more brazen maybe in a public park too.
The people behind this day say that our culture needs to move toward a healthy sense of both body acceptance and our relationship to the natural environment. Gardening naked is not only a simple joy, it reminds us–even if only for those few sunkissed minutes–that we can be honest with who we are as humans and as part of this planet.
