On the eve of the multi-talented Brit performer PETER GROOM opening his smash hit one (wo)man show  DIETRICH: NATURAL DUTY to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, he very excitedly talked to Queerguru about it and his total fascination with the legendary MARLENE DIETRICH

The show uses music, stories and songs – including Falling in Love Again, Lili Marlene, Where Have All the Flowers Gone?, Boys in the Backroom, Lola – to reveal a Hollywood icon’s extraordinary commitment to duty, and is an intoxicating mix of theatre, cabaret and drag

Created and performed by Peter Groom. Co-written and directed by Oliver Gully.   Dietrich: Natural Duty  will run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival at Pleasance  Aug 1 – 27 at 3.30pm (1 hour)

Queer writer/performer ALEXIS GREGORY talks about RIOT ACT

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , ,

Brit Playwright and performer Alexis Gregory talks about Riot Act, a powerful, brand new verbatim theatre piece, created especially for the King’s Head Theatre‘s Queer Season in London, which will premiere Tuesday 31 July – Sunday 5 August.

Gregory interviewed one of the only remaining Stonewall survivors – the 1969 NYC riot that kick stared the gay rights movement; a member of a 1970’s London radical-drag troupe- underground alternative performance icon Lavinia Co-Op; and prominent 90’s London ACT UP AIDS activist Paul Burston. All three men spoke about their lives then and their lives now. Riot Act is shaped entirely, word for word, out of these interviews.

This interview with Roger Walker-Dack for www.queergurutv.com was filmed via Facetime

An Audience with the Queen of Ireland : Panti Bliss

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , ,

Rory O’Neill aka Panti Bliss has been Ireland’s’ foremost drag queen  for over twenty years now, but it wasn’t until one cold February night in 2014 at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin that the world sat up and took notice of her.  In one of the most impassioned moving speeches about the reality of homophobia the articulate and totally charming Panti overnight became an unlikely global iconic gay figure.

The speech quickly went viral winning her a People of The Year Award which was presented by  the Brit gay actor/writer Stephen Fry who declared that Panti was the most important Irish voice since Oscar Wilde.

It propelled her into leading the country’s very successful same-sex marriage campaign and becoming a national treasure in Ireland. Last year her life was the subject of a biopic calling her the Queen of Ireland.

Panti claims that she is a drag queen first and an accidental activist second, but many of her fellow countrymen would love her to reverse rolls and maybe even become Ireland’s next President.

As Queerguru was visiting Ireland we nagged Panti’s PA to set up an interview. So one Sunday afternoon in her own bar …..aptly named the Panti Bar,  we partook of a few pink cocktails and finally got to talk to Panti.

PS we added the fact about the cocktails because its the reason why the first few minutes of the video are not too perfect.
