Queerguru tracked down Charl-Johan Lingenfelder the co-writer of Canary aka Kanarie in Cape Town to talk about the wonderful musical drama based on his own life, and find out why it is one of the rare #LGBTQ films shot in Afrikaans ……. on the eve of its screening at Miami’s OUTshine Film Festival
When actor Matthew Cavan was diagnosed with HIV+ 10 years ago he felt totally isolated. He lives in Northern Ireland, a conservative and religious province of the UK which was way behind in its acceptance of the LGBTQ community let alone those with HIV.
Supported by his close family + friends Cavan created Cherrie On Top as his drag queen alter ego to give him confidence and made two documentaries on his life’s journey filled with such positivity and now he talks with QUEERGURU about the joy of being regarded as role mole for the community #NickyLarkinBBC Northern Ireland
Queerguru talked with the writer Christopher Castellani , whose day job is artistic director of Grub Street, the country’s largest and leading independent creative writing center. With three novels already published, we met with him at Miami Book Fair to eagerly discuss his latest one Leading Men which is already a best seller in L.A. This novel is the story of Tennessee Williams and Frank Merlo : one of the greatest queer love stories ever.
The annual Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival is a showcase for one of World’s most celebrated queer writers who spent many summers there creating some of his finest work and constantly falling in and out of love. Established 13 years ago , it was however QUEERGURU’s first time as it is held in the Fall when we have usually left Town.
This year’s Festival combined the work of Williams with that of the provocative Japanese writer Yukio Mishima who became a close friend of Williams as they shared the same esthetics.
Queerguru spoke with David Kaplan the Festival’s Curator to find out what it really is all about, and how it now plays to sold-out crowds at every performance and grew into becoming such a beloved #PTown cultural highlight
