Queer auteur JOSEPH WILSON talks about IL WIDNA his dystopian take on Thatcher’s Anti-LGBTQ Laws

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , ,

In 1988 Margaret Thatcher introduced a hate-filled anti-LGBTQ Law called CLAUSE 28 which was to effectively ban the promotion of homosexuality. Even now some 30 years later it’s left a bitter memory within the LGBTQ Community for its sheer pernisciousness. Brit filmmaker Joseph Wilson‘ talks to QUEERGURU about his short dystopian film that follows a group of unapologetically queer warriors forced to flee the UK at that time.

QUEERGURU at The Movies : @ NEWFEST NYC

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , ,

Founded in 1988, NewFest is New York’s largest presenter of LGBTQ+ film & media  and its 32nd edition will take place October 16-27, 2020, with the majority of the 120+ new films accessible online to ticket holders NATIONWIDE in the US.  An important fact to note as most other Film Festivals we have covered have one been available in their home states.

There are also Special events include a Queer Trivia Night hosted by Rupaul’s Drag Race alum Jackie Cox; a Virtual Dance Party in partnership with House of Yes to close out My Girl Friday, a selection of films by and about  women, women-identifying, and non-binary members of the queer community; as well as the previously announced all trans live reading of BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN to celebrate the film’s 15th anniversary. All Panels will stream for free on NewFest’s YouTube and Facebook channels.

As usual the Queerguru Team have gone through the entire schedule for TOP PICKS OF FILMS NOT TO MISS.  Some of these are favorites we have covered before from the Festival circuit, but we have also included some stunning new ones too.

Ammonite,  Dry Wind,  Forgotten Roads, Keith Haring: Street Art Boy, Julia Scotti: Funny That Way, Shiva Baby, Sublet, Summer of 85. The Strong Ones  and Uncle Frank
