Once in a blue moon when we are ploughing through our usual packed schedule of movies to review, we come across a wee gem that hails an extraordinary new talent that gets us more than a little excited. Discovering that this particular new find wrote, directed and starred in his first feature, but who is barely out of college, makes it all even more remarkable.  Prom King, 2010 is already being hailed as one of the best new LGBT movies of 2017, and queerguru talked to its creator being hailed as the new wunderkind : Christopher Schaap.  He is an old-fashion romantic in a young soul.

Courtney Moorehead on Little Pink House

Writer/director Courtney Moorehead talks to queerguru about her new drama  Little Pink House that stars Catherine Keener and Jeanne Tripplehorn. Based on a very real story about one woman’s battle against the vast Pfizer Corporation who wanted to compulsory purchase her beautiful riverside home to build a bigger factory to make more Viagra. Her battle went all the way to the US Supreme Court where the controversial 5-4 decision outraged Americans across the political spectrum, and fueled reforms that helped curb eminent domain abuse.

The movie won Best Audience Award at The Provincetown Film Festival

Johnson we seized the moment to also talk to him about How To Survive A Plague his Oscar Awards Nominated documentary recognized as THE seminal work on the AIDS pandemic, and which is really essential viewing for the entire #LGBTQ community and beyond. Following his first highly successful documentary ‘How To Survive A Plague’ which deservedly won him an Oscar Nomination, filmmaker David France has now turned his attention to the mystery surrounding the death of legendary NY drag queen and activist Marsha P. Johnson for his sophomore movie.  With the help of Victoria Cruz who was about to retire from the NY Anti-Violence Project, they try to get to the truth of what really happened to this stalwart of the Gay Liberation movement who was a central figure in the Stonewall riots.
