Keith Haring: Street Art Boy

At long last the BBC film Keith Haring: Street Art Boy , considered the definitive documentary on one of most influential queer artists of the last century, will premiere on PBS American Masters series.

Haring’s pop art and graffiti-like work grew out of the New York City street culture of the 1980s. Much of his work includes sexual allusions that turned into social activism, and he achieved this by using sexual images to advocate for safe sex and AIDS awareness]

This new 90 minute long film, billed as the definitive account of the late art world celebrity and pop culture icon features exclusive access to the Haring Foundation’s archives to capture the energy behind Haring’s art and the downtown New York culture of the time.

Following his AIDS diagnosis, Haring told writer and art critic John Gruen the story of his life in intimate and candid detail in 1989 for his biographyThese previously unheard interviews form the narrative of the documentary, in addition to interviews with Haring’s family and friends as well as Fab 5 Freddy, Lee Quinones, Tony ShafraziBill T. Jones, Kenny Scharf, Ann Magnuson, Kurt Andersen, George Condo and others.

The documentary that screens on PBS on Dec 4, 202 is directed and produced by Ben Anthony and executive produced by Janet Lee. Alice Rhodes is producer;
