SAUVAGE : the new gay film that some Critics at Cannes loved, whilst others clamoured for the exit

Léo is 22 years old and sells his body on the street for a bit of cash.  The men come and go and he stays right there longing for love .  He doesn’t know what the future will bring.   Every time he hits the road, his heart of pounding.

This young French prostitute  uses tricks as a way to seize moments of sweetness whenever he can, to kiss someone, or to take a man in his arms. He doesn’t share the cynicism or detachment of his fellow workers. Indeed, they reproach him for his attitude, which  they perceive as a lack of professionalism. They are here to make money, whereas Léo takes his pleasure wherever he finds it.

Sauvage is the feature film debut of writer/director Camille Vidal-Naquet.  It’s very graphic nature and brutal honesty was way too much for some of the Critics at Cannes Film Festival this year as they clamoured to walk out.   The young  star Félix Maritaud, who was extremely impressive as as Max in last year’s stunning multi-award winning AIDS drama BPM, plays Leo in the film. and won the first Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award, given by Semaine de la Critique, for his performance.

At the time of writing the film has still not got a UK or US release date slated in : but keep watching this space. We cannot wait to see the whole film, but if it’s as half as good as BPM we will be totally delighted.  Meanwhile here’s a trailer so you can see for yourself what the fuss is all about

P.S. Queerguru would love you to bits if you did us one tiny favor.  Despite the fact that we have had almost 295K hits on YouTube (yeah!) they will not give us a single cent of the advertising money that they make off us until we have more subscribers.  Won’t cost you a dime,  but it will help support our site. Just simply click on the link below.  Thank you very much!
