The Crown is coming back! It’s Season Four and the poor Queen (still the brilliant Olivia Colman) has to cope with the election of the UK’s first female Prime Minister. Margaret Thatcher (the superb Gillian Anderson) the jumped up Grocers daughter (Queerguru’s own favorite description) never enjoyed a close relationship with the Monarch as she tried to upstage her too often (and always failed).
We are however far more excited that the new Season sees the one woman who really changed everything for the Royal Family. Enter Lady Diana Spencer (newcomer Emma Corrin) the virginal bride of the future King (heartthrob Josh O’Connor). This season will see her settling in, we think we will have to wait to see Season 5 and 6 to see the marriage fall apart and bringing the Royal Family to the brink
The Crown season 4 premieres on 15 November on Netflix.
Daphne Du Maurier’s celebrated novel REBECCA has been adapted into a movie 5 times already. The first time by Alfred Hitchcock in 1940 starring Laurence Olivier as Max, Joan Fontaine as his wife, and Judith Anderson as Mrs. Danvers, winning two Academy Awards including Best Picture.
Since then even Bollywood have done TWO adaptions the first being the Hindi film Kohra !
So do we need a new filmed version of Dame Daphne’s 82 year old British gothic novel? We were about to say a big NO until we saw details of the team behind it, and then caught sight of the trailer and that changed into a big YES.
Not because it is helmed by Ben Wheatley one of the hottest indie filmmakers in the Uk right now. Not because it stars Lily James (Downton Abbey) or the too-handsome-for-words Armie Hammer. The reason is very simple it is because Oscar-nominee and multi-award-winner Dame Kristin Scott Thomas plays the evil Mrs Danvers, a part she was born to play. Check her out in this new trailer
Rebecca is scheduled to be released in select theatres and on Netflix on 21 October 2020
