Young, Queer & Skint in Brighton (UK)

The Marlborough Theatre in Brighton a rather glorious seaside town on the UK’s South Coast, is home to Pink Fringe a production company who specialize in mounting some excellent queer and LGBT cultural events.  Their penchant is in the unusual, the unexpected and they seek out work that really has something to say about contemporary life.

The current political and economical climate on both sides of The Pond has impacted LGBT youth more than most, and to that end they are mounting three days of what it means to be Young, Queer & Skint.  They promise cheap tickets, radical thinking and really good art.  (‘skint’ by the way is British slang for being broke & penniless)

Thursday 16th March 2017 : WORKSHY by Katy Baird  : this is a show about work : some people work to make money whilst some work to feel fulfilled, and others don’t work at all.  Exeunt wrote about the show ‘ A sharp engaging take on the complicated questions that fuel and shape our thinking about work an labour’

Friday 17th March 2017 : WORKING CLASS DINNER PARTY by Scottee.  He is joined by acclaimed artists Bryony Kimmings and Selina Thompson as they discuss growing up on council estates, working class identity and learning how to be posh in an art world dominated by the middle classes. Time Out raved ‘A progressive sensibility with tits-n-teeth sensibility.’

Saturday 18th March 2017 : Letters to Windsor House by Sh!t Theatre : Songs, politics, dodgy landlords, property magnates, detective work and a loophole in the Postal Services Act, all come together in (another) potentially felonious hour by the makers of 2015’s award winning Women’s Hour).  The London Times described the duo ‘A distinctive style of music-hall agitprop theatre imbued with wit and heart.’
