94 year old Iris Apfel : Driven By Style

files-469895

When most people reach the age that they officially become ‘senior citizens’ they start to take things easy and lead a more sedentary life.  Not Iris Apfel though.  This idiosyncratic fashion maven with her over-sized glasses was well-known in N.Y. society pages and gossip columns for decades and then when the Met featured an exhibition of her outfits in 2005 she became an octogenarian starlet.

Two years ago she was the star in a truly delicious documentary simply called Iris which was directed by the Oscar nominated Albert Maysles. Then when Carl her husband of  some 70 years died last year a few days short of his 101th birthday, we thought that finally Iris may slow down.  No chance.  Two months ago we reported in queerguru that the 94 year old was now designing very stylish Fitness Bracelets for Wisewear.

Now we here from across the Pond that she has taken on a new ‘job’ and has become the ‘brand ambassador’ for Citroën cars. We managed to get our hands on a copy of the TV advert that she stars in (that is only playing in the UK) extolling the virtues of style in words that are not the work of some sharp yuppy copywriter, but from the great dame herself.
