After all the controversy around the recent Academy Award Nominations, it’s good to know that WE got it (mostly) right.  There may not be enough diversity in this new list of winners published today, but it does at least correct several of the very noticeable omissions from the Oscar list. Especially when it comes to Todd Haynes’ “Carol” which for some inexplicable reason was never nominated for either Best Film or Best Director by Academy members.
The ‘We’ in this case is GALECA which I am a member of, and today the full list of our much coveted DORIAN AWARDS were announced. The awards which are voted on by all the members  honor  our picks for the year’s finest in film and television, “from mainstream to gaystream.”
As well as winning Best Director for Todd Haynes, ‘Carol’ also won Best Film of the Year and also LGBTQ Film of the Year plus Best Actress for Cate Blanchett and the Best Screenplay Award too .  Mr Haynes was also honored with the special Wilde Artist of The Year Award too
Other notable winners include  “Tangerine” which won ‘Unsung Film Of The Year.
