Baz is heading back to Broadway

 

This summer one of the most highly anticipated new musicals finally arrives on Broadway..  It’s been 18 years since Baz Luhrmann’s Oscar winning movie MOULIN ROUGE starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor set movie screens alight and that no-one could stop talking about.  Now its been adapted by 3 Time Oscar Nominee John Logan and directed by 2 Time Tony Award Nominee Alex Timbers for the stage and after touring for a while it is due to open in NY at the Al Hirschfeld Theater in July.

Aaron Tveit (Catch Me If You Can) is reviving the Ewan McGregor role who falls in love with the beautiful courtesan played by Tony Award Winner Karen Olivio (West Side Story).  Also in the cast are 6 time Tony Award nominee Danny Burstein, Robyn Hurder, Tam Mutu  and Sahr Ngaujah

P.S. The last time there was Luhrmann on Broadway was in 2002 when he brought his production of Puccini‘s Labohème to the Broadway Theatre it received seven Tony Award nominations, including Best Revival of a Musical, Best Direction (Luhrmann), Best Orchestrations (Nicholas Kitsopoulos), Best Costume Design (Catherine Martin), and winning Best Set Design (Catherine Martin), Best Lighting Design (Nigel Levings), and the Tony Honors for Excellence in Theatre for the Principal Ensemble Cast.
