Filmmaker Eric Juhola talks about Growing Up Coy

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , ,

The Mathis are a remarkable family whose courage and determination rarely faltered when they supported their youngest child Coy who started transitioning from male to female in kindergarten after it was clear that Coy felt he was a girl.  Growing Up Coy documents the family’s fight for her right to use the girls’ bathroom in a landmark civil rights case that prompted a nationwide debate.

On the eve of the movie being released for global streaming to over 190 countries on Netflix (it is already available on Itunes) director Eric Juhola talked to queerguru at PTV via Facetime about just how important Coy Mathis’s touching story really is.

The great 18th Century English writer Samuel Johnson once famously wrote “when a man is tired on London, he is tired of life.” queerguru feels the same about P Town but as mid-summer fatigue sets in with some residents here, it is so heartening how a fresh set of eyes reminds us (yet again) how magical our town really is. Take a look & listen at actor Gilles Marini (Sex & The City, Brothers & Sisters, Dancing With The Stars) in town as one of the bikers taking part in Kiehls #Liferide7 that is raising funds and awareness to help amFAR Make Aids History and support the AIDS Support Group  of Cape Cod too.

A charming Marini waxed lyrically about the Event and P Town in particular and told queerguru ‘If the World was more like P Town, it would definitely be a better place”.

queerguru with Judy Rolfe filmed the whole #Liferide7 visit to P Town for P.T.V. and our video of the event with interviews with ALL the stars will go live as soon as we can finish editing it.

1In their compelling new documentary  The Guys Next Door filmmakers Amy Geller & Allie Humenuk capture the remarkable heartwarming journey of gay married couple Erik and Sandro who get the family that they always wanted when their best friend Rachel acts as their surrogate twice. Filmed over five years it tracks how this whole new fluid sense of family is such a roaring success and how very lucky these  young girls are to have two daddies and such a supportive extended family.

The movie is reviewed by queerguru for P.T.V as part of 18th Edition of the Provincetown International Film Festival #PIFF16

Happy Birthday Tab Hunter

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , ,

When Tab Hunter swung through P.Town recently to launch the kickoff of Provincetown International Film Festival #PIFF16 he sat down with queerguru for P.T.V. one sunny afternoon to talk about his rather extraordinary life since he was Hollywood’s biggest Box Office Star in the 1950’s. This totally disarmingly charming man who celebrates his 85th Birthday today (July 11th) is an old-fashioned extremely handsome gentleman who whilst he may not like to kiss-and-tell, he did take time to share stories of both the good old days, and the even more exciting ones that followed.

We also got to spend some time with producer Allan Glaser, Tab’s partner for the past 30 years, and that interview will be published very soon.

The award-winning documentary Tab Hunter Confidential directed by Jeffrey Schwarz is now available on I-Tunes and other streaming platforms.

When actress, writer, producer and director ILLEANA DOUGLAS was in Provincetown recently for #PIFF16 she stopped by P.T.V. to talk to queerguru aka Roger Walker-Dack about her hilariously funny new memoir I Blame It In Dennis Hopper And Other Stories From A Life Lived In & Out of Movies.  An ardent filmaholic whose love for all things cinematic started when her Oscar Winning Grandfather the legendary actor Melvyn Douglas took her on the set of the Peter Sellers movie ‘Being There’ and it has never waned since.

She tells queerguru all …..especially why Dennis Hopper has to take some responsibility for how her life turned out …. in this delightfully refreshing interview filmed by Rik Ahlberg at The Sage Inn and Lounge in Provincetown.
