Brooklyn filmmaker Eddie Shore a founding member of the filmmaking collective #ColorChart talks to queerguru about his new short film Cold Storage a documentary on how the seaside resort of #Provincetown becomes almost a ghost town in the winter. The movie won Best New England Short Film Award at #PIFF217.
The Canadian auteur Bruce LaBruce is one of the very best queer filmmakers: part queercore, part queer punk, part pornographer …… (who actually hates labels…..), and who is always pushing the envelope with his work. He combines more conventional narrative and filmmaking techniques with his appetite interest for extreme topics, and many have explicit sexual content at a time when other filmmakers are no longer prepared to challenge the norm. LaBruce is a fearless creative and his influence and contribution to queer cinema is substantial and one of the reasons the Provincetown Film Festival honored him with their Filmmaker On The Edge Award
And why Queerguru jumped at the chance to sit down and talk with him: it’s not every day you get a chance to meet a queer icon ……
For the 20th Edition of Provincetown Film Society & Festival in June 2018, there are 14 eclectic feature-length QUEER MOVIES that cover a very wide spectrum and here, in alphabetical order, is QUEERGURU’S take on them all.
queerguruwas on the Red Carpet at the Opening Party of #PIFF17 at the Crown & Anchor’s Paramount Bar and tout P.Town was there. We talked to the stars, filmmakers, celebrities and local movers & shakers to find out what was hot, and more importantly what they were wearing.
When the credits roll on respected Haitian filmmaker Raul Peck’s powerful new documentary you will notice that the screenwriter listed is in fact the late author and social critic James Baldwin himself. This memoir/semi-biography of this great African/American man of letters which links the ideas of three assassinated leaders uses only prose lifted from directly from Baldwin’s texts or letters which are read with a mixture of passion and dignity by the actor Samuel L Jackson.
queerguru reviews for P.T.V. the documentary that the NY Times declared was one of the best movies of the year, and we kind of agree.
