From Baghdad to The Bay

MainPageImage (1)

It takes a big set of balls to be a part of the US Army’s operation in Iraq when you are both an Iraqi and a gay man. Ghazwan Alsharif definitely has them, as after serving as a Translator with the Armed Forces for a long time, just two days after Saddam Hussein was captured, Alsharif was also slapped into jail because the US Authorities simply couldn’t believe that anyone would help them as much as he would.

They tortured him for 75 days before they admitted their mistake and so gave him safe passage to a new life in San Francisco, and then in 2012 after hearing about how the Iraqis were killing men just for being gay, he finally ‘came out’. He decided that he needed to step up and help stop the craziness. and so he has risked a lot to give a voice to the problem by telling his story in this new documentary film called From Baghdad To The Bay, that is near completion. Even though at this distance from his country, his sexuality could cause problems for this family that remains there.

Here is teaser of the work in progress which can only be completed if the filmmakers  raise the necessary funds. As of today 46% of the $75K has been donated, and you can help increase that further by making a contribution today here http://www.frombaghdadtothebay.com
