Has Andrew LLoyd Webber finally come out of the (musical) closet?

No the picture above is not taken from some gay porn movie, but is actually a production shot taken of Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber’s new musical. There are no prizes for guessing its name, simply because that would prove too difficult for most of us.

This is the new Cinderella. Not the squeaky clean version that has been staged since the 1950s when Rodgers and Hammerstein famously adapted the Charles Perrault fairy tale into a television musical starring Julie Andrews. Or the stage musical that made it to Broadway in 2013 in a rewritten version.

Lloyd Webber has  been curiously silent about the book for his new show, but judging by all the shirtless men in harnesses and leather gear, it seems like the British composer may have finally come out of the (musical) closet

The 2nd picture is of the Queen who is dressed not in royal garb, but casually in grey turtleneck and black pants. She wears a traditional brocaded gown, but with a large piece of fabric attached to the lower part of the garment that may have some alternative meaning. On her head is a period, bouffant wig with white feathers attached that gives the look like it was given to her by another sort of queen.  One of those drag ones.

Headlining the production is Carrie Hope Fletcher in the title role. Joining her are Victoria Hamilton-Barritt as the Stepmother, Ivano Turco as Prince Sebastian, Rebecca Trehearn as The Queen, Georgina Castle and Laura Baldwin as Cinderella’s stepsisters, and Gloria Onitiri as The Godmother.

Currently, Webber is obsessed with fighting the British Government in getting the Covid Lockdown restrictions filly lifted.  Webber threatened them with legal action after the final phase of the British reopening was pushed back to July 19. Until then theaters will be running at 50% capacity, not 100% as originally planned. Currently in previews, “Cinderella” is scheduled to open on July 14 at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London.

Meanwhile here are the London Gay Men’s Chorus singing “Marry For Love”.one of the new songs from the show
