Tell Me On A Sunday goes gay ……

Sometimes is takes along time for the penny to drop for some people.  When we first heard Bernadette Peters sing her way to her very first Tony Award  In Tell Me On A Sunday (the first act of Song and Dance)  we knew this was way too gay.

This musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Don Black , it tells the story of an ordinary English girl from a London suburb , who journeys to the United States in search of love. Her romantic misadventures begin in New York City, lead her to Hollywood, and eventually take her back to Manhattan.

Just look at some of the song cycle titles : they just reek of a melodramatic gay love affair that has  gone terribly wrong

Take That Look Off Your Face
Let Me Finish
It’s Not the End of the World (If I Lose Him)
You Made Me Think You Were in Love
It’s Not the End of the World (If He’s Younger)
Come Back with the Same Look in Your Eyes
Let’s Talk About You
Take That Look Off Your Face (Reprise)
Tell Me on a Sunday
It’s Not the End of the World (If He’s Married)
I’m Very You, You’re Very Me
Nothing Like You’ve Ever Known
Let Me Finish (Reprise)

Just listen to the video below with your eyes closed and you’ll that see these lyrics would suit any drama queen.

The 82 year old Academy Winner songwriter Don Black who penned these lyrics to LLoyd Webbers music thinks so too.  So now he is working on a new version for a gay make lead.  Better late than never
