The Drawings of Christian Dior

Christian Dior was one of the greatest fashion designers of the last century.  He was also gay but like fellow designer  Cristobal Balenciaga, he hid his sexuality due to societal pressures of the era he lived.

His collection in 1947 that  Carmel Snow, the editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar called  The New Look revolutionized fashion at the time. His  designs were more voluptuous than the boxy, fabric-conserving shapes of the recent World War II styles, influenced by the rations on fabric.] He was a master at creating shapes and silhouettes; -with waisted corsets and petticoats that made his dresses flare out from the waist, giving his models a very curvaceous form.

Dior died of a heart attack just 10 years after at the age of 52, an event he  may have had because he had already appointed a very young (gay) Yves Saint Laurent to take over the House of Dior

This fascinating film combines interviews with experts and animations of Christian Dior’s sketches, this documentary tells the story of the brand that epitomized midcentury glamour. It connects the past to the future by asking how the fashion house operates today.
