The Smallest Countries with the BIggest Queer News

It seems in troubled times like now , it’s some of the smallest countries around the globe that have some of the best queer news to share.

Wales is a tiny country  joined onto England and who lists amongst its greatest contributions to the World for giving us Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones and Sir Anthony Hopkins.  (We have ALMOST forgiven them for Catherine Zeta-Jones) .

They have just announced that PREP the once-a-day drug, which prevents people without HIV from acquiring the virus when taken correctly, will be made available  FREE across Wales “for all people for whom it is clinically appropriate”.

The tiny country of MONTENEGRO in the Balkans  is the first European country outside Western Europe and the European Union to legally recognise gay and lesbian couples

The country, with a population of about 620,000 people, becomes the 32nd United Nations member to recognise some form of civil partnership for same-sex couples. Gay and lesbian couples can marry in 28 U.N. countries.

GABON, a country on the west coast of Central Africa. located on the equator voted to approve a ground breaking law to decriminalise homosexuality that makes the country one of the few in Africa to reverse a ban on same-sex relationships. Gabon  had been one of 73 countries or jurisdictions around the world, including more than two dozen in Africa, where sex between men and between women was illegal.

In the Netherlands, one of the smallest countries in the EU the are  planning a way to guarantee LGBT+ rights for generations to come by including them in Article 1 of its constitution.  Activist  Astrid Oosenbrug said ‘Today we are taking a big step towards anchoring our rights in the constitution. ‘That is important for today, as a task for politicians to tackle violence against LGBTI people, for example. And it is important for the future, as a guarantee that we can still enjoy our hard-won rights in fifty or a hundred years.’
