Trailer of Freddie Mercury biopic BUT will we think it a Rhapsody when the movie is released?

Most of us old enough to remember Freddie Mercury usually have a special memory of the late great Brit rock star who was taken from us far too early. Queerguru’s is from December 9, 1980, when Queen were appearing at Wembley Arena.  It was the day after John Lennon had been killed and the world was still in shock.

We knew that Freddie would want to mark the occasion, and he did so very much in his very own way.  He walked onto  the stage and without saying a single word sang Lennon’s ‘Imagine.’  Then at the end, again with complete silence, he just left the stage,  There was not a dry eye in the house.

Like most Brits of that generation, we are excited that Freddie’s life is being celebrated in a new biopic from 20th Century Fox that is to be released later this year.  However, we still reserve judgment on the project until we see the completed movie in case it is not a true snapshot of Freddie’s life.  For example, he was such a regular fixture at all the gay clubs in London during the 1980’s that most of us barely looked twice, and we hope that is there in the film.  Those were the (good old) days when celebrities could get down and dirty with the rest of us without being trailed by media or stalkers.

Sacha Baron Cohen was originally attached to the project for some time and was slated to play Freddie himself.  He allegedly withdrew because he claimed the remaining members of Queen were micro-managing the movie to ensure that they were portrayed exactly as they themselves want to be.

Anyway here is the trailer ….. and we are keeping all our digits crossed for when the movie is finally released.

P.S. Queerguru would love you to bits if you did us one tiny favor.  Despite the fact that we have had almost 250K hits on YouTube (yeah!) they will not give us a single cent of the advertising money that they make off us until we have more subscribers.  Won’t cost you a dime,  but it will help support our site. Just simply click on the link below.  Thank you very much!
