Two new Queer Docs/Bio Pics in the works.

Gillian Anderson, fresh from picking up her Best Supporting Actress Golden Globe for her wonderful performance of (the evil) Margaret Thatcher in The Crown is set to play another politician on the small screen.

She is set to play history’s favorite bisexual, Eleanor Roosevelt, in a new television series for Showtime aptly called The First Lady.  It’s an anthology series that will tell the stories of first ladies throughout history,

In other episodes, Michelle Pfeiffer will play  Betty Ford and Viola Davis will be  Michelle Obama. The series created by Aaron Cooley will also star Judy Greer, Aaron Eckhart, Jayme Lawson, Kristine Forseth, and Rhys Wakefield.

Much has been made of Roosevelt’s sexuality by historians. While she never publicly identified as bisexual or lesbian, she once told her daughter Anna that she disliked having sex with her husband, President Franklin D Roosevelt, saying it was an “ordeal to be borne”.  It was later rumored that Eleanor had a close relationship with Earl Miller, a New York State Police sergeant, who was assigned to be her bodyguard.

Meanwhile everyone’s favorite first openly gay Transportation Secretary in United States history, Pete Buttigieg has hit another milestone: he will be the subject of a documentary film produced by Amazon Studios.

“Mayor Pete” will chronicle Buttigieg’s landmark run for the White House, as well as offer a glimpse into his home life in Indiana with his husband Chasten, and their two dogs. Cameras followed the Buttigieg couple beginning in Summer 2019 all the way through March 2020, when the former South Bend, Indiana mayor withdrew from the Democratic contest. Buttigieg didn’t waste a single moment and enthusiastically threw himself behind Joe Biden’s campaign proving to be one of the future President’s most loyal and effective supporter

Director Jesse Moss will helm the film and his current movie Boys State is already attracting considerable Oscar buzz this year after it won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.

Amazon will release Mayor Pete later in 2021; a final date has not yet been announced.
